What\u2019s also common is struggling to manage it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urmc.rochester.edu\/encyclopedia\/content.aspx?ContentTypeID=1&amp;ContentID=2171\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">University of Rochester<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u2018Your body\u2019s response to stress is supposed to protect you. But, if it&#8217;s constant, it can harm you. The hormone cortisol is released in response to stress. Studies suggest that the high levels of cortisol from long-term stress can increase blood cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, and blood pressure. These are common risk factors for heart disease.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Needless to say, when it comes to increasing heart health, it\u2019s important to find healthy ways to manage stress. Ideally, you\u2019d eliminate sources of stress but in the real world that\u2019s not always possible, especially if your stress is caused or compounded by things like work and family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead, you\u2019ll need to focus on coping mechanisms. Learning to cope, rather than avoid, will also help you to handle many of life\u2019s obstacles. As much as we may want to, it\u2019s impossible to avoid all sources of stress, and knowing how to cope with them will help you to become stronger and more resilient.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My top suggestions for coping with stress are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therapy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meditation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walking<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Listening to music<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Time without your phone<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Being sedentary<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s well known that a lack of physical activity can be a cause of heart disease. A lack of exercise can have a hugely negative impact on all areas of your health, so much so that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instah.com\/fitness\/lack-of-exercise-effects-and-symptoms\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">people that are static for more than 11 hours a day are 40% more likely to develop a chronic illness than those that are static for only four hours a day<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the best things you can do to improve your cardiovascular health is to implement <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/health\/wellness-and-prevention\/exercise-and-the-heart\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a regular exercise routine, <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which can:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lower blood pressure<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reduce the risk of diabetes<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Help maintain a healthy weight<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reduce inflammation throughout the body<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reduce stress hormones<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Improve the ability of muscles to take in oxygen<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don\u2019t need to devote hours a day to working out. Small amounts can add up, and you can start with something small. To get started, I recommend you set aside time to take short walks, even if it\u2019s just 10 minutes . As you adapt to the new routine you can start to extend the length of your walks, or try to complete the same distance in less time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions are highly effective for getting a lot done in a short amount of time, and I also recommend a form of strength training a couple of times a week. If you don\u2019t have access to a gym, simply perform bodyweight workouts at home, like pushups, squats and pull-ups. Each exercise has regressions too, making them accessible for people who aren\u2019t currently able to perform the full variations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Eating the wrong foods<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ve all heard the phrase \u2018you are what you eat\u2019 and it\u2019s entirely true. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ovadiahearthealth.com\/old-site\/2021\/08\/29\/simple-rules-for-heart-healthy-eating\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What we eat has a huge impact on our body\u2019s ability to keep itself healthy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Exercise has developed a reputation as being capable of righting the wrongs of a bad diet, but this isn\u2019t true. You can\u2019t out-train a bad diet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The impact of what we eat goes far beyond simple calories. Food<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provides us energy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is used to build cells<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regulates our hormones<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A poor diet has a negative impact on all areas of our health and affects the way our bodies function. Just because someone spends a lot of time in the gym or has a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ovadiahearthealth.com\/old-site\/2021\/06\/20\/be-healthy-not-thin\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">good physique does not mean that they are healthy.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My main guideline for implementing a healthy diet is to only eat things that grow in the ground or that eat things that grow in the ground (in other words, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and animal products). Avoid products that were made in a factory and are sold in a packet. That includes seed oils, cereals, sugary snacks, and ready meals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food is the foundation of our health, so when it comes to heart disease prevention, the right diet is crucial.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Lifestyle habits<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m not going to chastise anyone for a drink here and there or the occasional cigar. But excessive alcohol or tobacco consumption can wreck your health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/chronicdisease\/resources\/publications\/factsheets\/heart-disease-stroke.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CDC says<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that smoking is a major cause of heart disease and stroke, and causes one in every four deaths from them. That\u2019s no surprise, considering it causes<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Increased blood pressure<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Narrowing of the arteries<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buildup of plaque in the arteries<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excessive alcohol also has a significant impact on your health, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palmpartners.com\/alcohol-and-heart-disease\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can cause<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High blood pressure<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Obesity<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strokes<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For heart disease prevention, moderation is key.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Ignoring the signs<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re concerned about your heart health, then don\u2019t ignore it!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have any concerns or feel that you may have symptoms, go to your doctor immediately.
