These are often ignored or chalked up to other causes \u2014 especially in young or otherwise \u2018healthy\u2019 people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These may include:<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Mental illness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/ovadiahearthealth.com\/old-site\/2022\/07\/17\/metabolic-health-mental-health-and-addiction\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mental health<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is inextricably connected to bodily health. Today,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4800172\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more than a third<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of all heart attack patients display some form of depression, memory loss, or dementia prior to their event. This is a two-way relationship:<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhlbi.nih.gov\/news\/2017\/heart-disease-and-depression-two-way-relationship#:~:text=Conversely%2C%20people%20who%20are%20diagnosed,from%2020%20to%2030%20percent.\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">heart disease may cause depression<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while clinical depression may be diagnosed before heart health issues are discovered.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Disrupted sleep<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If you have trouble getting or staying asleep, it may have more to do with your heart than your peace of mind. Conditions such as sleep apnea increase your<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sleepfoundation.org\/sleep-apnea\/sleep-apnea-linked-heart-disease#:~:text=It's%20estimated%20that%20patients%20with,coronary%20heart%20disease%20by%2030%25.\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">risks for heart failure by 140%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and your factors for coronary heart disease by 20%. Insomnia is also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ovadiahearthealth.com\/old-site\/2022\/06\/10\/i-have-been-diagnosed-with-high-blood-pressure-what-should-i-do\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">linked to hypertension<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and heart disease.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Metabolic syndrome<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is a collection of symptoms including hypertension, abdominal obesity, high blood sugar, and abnormal cholesterol and triglyceride levels. When any of these factors are present, your risk factors for cardiovascular disease<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/17456293\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rise by 60%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. As of 2018, more than <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhlbi.nih.gov\/health\/metabolic-syndrome\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">33% of American adults<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were projected to suffer from metabolic syndrome.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not all is lost if you are suffering from the effects of poor heart health. There are plenty of things you can do to mitigate your risks and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ovadiahearthealth.com\/old-site\/2022\/06\/26\/how-small-daily-changes-will-improve-cardiovascular-health\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">improve your cardiovascular health<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 starting with small, intentional changes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Improving heart health with simple steps<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Making small changes in your lifestyle can have a big impact on your heart health. In fact, nearly<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.clevelandclinic.org\/2020\/01\/30\/cleveland-clinic-survey-most-americans-dont-know-heart-disease-is-leading-cause-of-death-in-women\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">90% of heart disease<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be prevented by modifying your environment or controlling your risk factors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below are some simple and scientifically vetted ways to improve cardiovascular health.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Simple cardiovascular training<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don&#8217;t have to be a gym rat to practice meaningful cardiovascular training.
