American workers report<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC1933584\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">15 days of impacted sleep<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> per month associated with work overload.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Combined with hypertension and coronary heart disease, this may prove fatal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The effects of stress on heart health should be deeply concerning to employers. Employees and employers must band together to focus more intentionally on their metabolic health \u2014 starting with practical stress management.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Managing stress for better health<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I&#8217;ll be the first to admit that workplace stress isn&#8217;t always avoidable. However, I firmly believe that conscious lifestyle changes can mitigate its impact on our health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I suggest focusing on the variables you can control. Instead of removing all possible stressors, try substituting older coping mechanisms with healthier, sustainable alternatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meditation<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meditation is a popular coping mechanism for those in<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ovadiahearthealth.com\/old-site\/2022\/08\/14\/managing-stress-in-a-cost-of-living-crisis\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">high-stress industries<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This often takes the form of mindfulness, which can be accomplished with apps like Headspace or Calm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I recommend trying multiple strategies until you find a system that works for you.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exercise<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set aside 30 to 60 minutes per day for<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ovadiahearthealth.com\/old-site\/2022\/08\/21\/how-cardiovascular-training-can-increase-your-lifespan\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">intentional physical movement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
